Random Lake, WI – January 2025 – The Random Lake School District’s Gifted and Talented (GT) model continues to set the standard for excellence in advanced learning, as displayed by its recent achievements. Over the past three years, the district has celebrated remarkable milestones, including two National Merit Scholars, a perfect ACT score, and 10% of the 2025 graduating class achieving a 29 or higher on the ACT. The numbers tell an extraordinary story, but behind the statistics lies a well-orchestrated effort—a model rooted in careful planning, innovation, and a commitment to individualized learning.
For the 2024-2025 school year, 89 students are participating in advanced learning services. These students benefit from various tailored opportunities, including Subject acceleration to dive deeper into areas of talent, Grade acceleration for those ready to leap ahead, Curriculum telescoping to streamline their educational journey, and Curriculum compacting to allow focus on advanced learning. “Our program isn’t just about enrichment,” explains Andria Peterson, the district’s Gifted and Talented Coordinator. “It’s about finding the right fit for each student to ensure they are appropriately challenged.”
These efforts prepare students to excel not only in the classroom but also in their academic and personal pursuits. The GT model’s emphasis on rigor ensures that graduates often enter college with credits already earned—an invaluable head start. One of the program’s defining traits is its unwavering commitment to collaboration. Parents and families are essential partners in the journey. After the first 30 days, the program initiates a conversation with parents to review progress, gather feedback, and discuss next steps. “Parents appreciate our proactive approach,” Peterson shares. “We don’t wait for them to reach out. We’re constantly monitoring and initiating conversations to ensure every student is supported.” This open dialogue fosters trust and ensures each child thrives in an environment designed for their unique potential.
The district’s GT model isn’t just about academics—it’s about creating well-rounded individuals. Students are encouraged to grow without utilizing isolation, ensuring they feel part of their peer community. The results speak for themselves. Advanced learners in Random Lake consistently enter higher education equipped with confidence, resilience, and an unmatched work ethic. “Working with these students is a privilege,” Peterson says. “They think differently, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help them thrive and succeed.”
Dr. Trimberger, the District Administrator, believes, “The unwavering commitment to rigor and opportunity in our Gifted and Talented Program is another way we ensure each student finds their RLAdvantage. Like many of the opportunities in our District, the systemic approach of the Gifted and Talented Program uses data-driven decisions and a collaborative spirit to transform the lives of learners by giving them the distinct advantage we strive for.”
